Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka rewards every kind of traveller. Its Cultural Triangle holds ancient capitals, cave temples and the rock fortress of Sigiriya. Kandy, the hill capital, guards the Temple of the Sacred Tooth, and the train from Kandy to Ella is one of the most scenic rides in Asia.

Add a safari in Yala or Udawalawe and finish on the southern coast around Galle, with its Dutch fort and long sandy beaches. Distances are short, so a week or ten days shows you a great deal without rushing.
